he year 2004 marked 40 years of involvement
in the timber industry for Gareth Lazarides.
In 1964 Gareth started as a general trainee
with a well known timber company and stayed
with them until 1983. During this time he
learnt a great deal about the industry and
developed a passion for everything timber.
Gareth left his employer in 1983 to establish
a 'one man' timber trading company. |

He pursued his own business with
ambition and in 1989 established Lazarides Timber
Agencies. The plan was to supply specialised cabinet
and furniture timber to various markets including
furniture makers, shopfitters, boatbuilders, crafts
people and home handymen by drawing supplies from
all over Australia, North and South America, Papua
New Guinea, Fiji, Solomons, New Zealand, Africa,
Europe and several Asian countries; the number
of stocked species totalled more than one hundred.
Gareth began operations in a warehouse
of approximately 500m2 at
Eagle Farm and later moved to a larger storage
facility of approximately 1000m2 in the same area.
In 2002 Gareth purchased a 1500m2 warehouse on
approximately 4000m2 of land at Banyo. This facility
is now the present location
of Lazarides Timber Agencies (pictured below).

Gareth's son Troy Lazarides joined
Gareth in 1993 and played a major role in the
Lazarides Timber Agencies expansion. Troy is presently
the Manager of the Lazarides warehouse.
Lazarides Timber Agencies is still
almost exclusively specialised
timber with a range of associated
products such as polishes, carving tools,
turning chisels, veneers and turning blanks. The
company also offers a service
for 'dressing to size' timber enabling
cabinetmakers and hanymen to move straight into
the assembly of their projects.
Gareth has travelled extensively
throughout Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific
Islands, Asia, and North and South America, sourcing
supplies for the local markets and selling Australian
timbers overseas.
Lazarides Timber Agencies ensure
that their great range of species have been harvested
in accordance with world practices to ensure sustainability.
